Fact

Car 55 (Carlos Sainz) did not use the escape road at Turn 4/5 after missing Turn 4.

Infringement

Breach of Article 12.2.1 i) of the FIA International Sporting Code and non-compliance with Race Director's Event Notes (item 20.2, document 4).

Decision

Driver: Reprimand (Driving)

Reason

The Stewards reviewed video and in-car video evidence.

  • Car 55 locked up the front left tire into Turn 4, causing the car to leave the track at Turn 4 and pass to the right of the gravel trap.
  • The driver then rejoined the track without following the escape road as prescribed in the Race Director's Event Notes.
  • The Stewards noted that, unlike some prior incidents of a similar nature, there were no mitigating circumstances (e.g., other drivers impacting braking or the line into the corner) in this particular case.

Right of Appeal

Competitors are reminded of their right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
