Infringements/Decisions

FIA Formula 1 World Championship - 2026 Canadian Grand Prix

From: The Stewards To: The Team Manager, Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team Document: 103 Date: 24 May 2026 Time: 20:07

Incident Details

  • Driver: 30 - Liam Lawson
  • Competitor: Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 Team
  • Time: 16:08
  • Session: Race
  • Fact: Cars 27 and 30 were out of position at Safety Car Line 1 during the formation lap. Car 30 left the grid before Car 27.
  • Infringement: Breach of Article B5.6.4 of the FIA F1 Regulations.

Decision

Reprimand for failure to start the formation lap in the correct order. This is the driver's first Reprimand for the Season.

Reason

The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 27 (Nico Hulkenberg), the driver of Car 30 (Liam Lawson), team representatives and reviewed positioning/marshalling system data, video, timing, and in-car video evidence.

  • Unusual Incident: Car 27 was slower than could be reasonably expected, starting from its grid position for what would be a third formation lap. Car 30 started sooner than expected and should have waited longer for Car 27 to start. During the formation lap, the driver of Car 27 claimed he was unable to safely pass Car 30 to regain the correct position.
  • No Impact on Race: Despite the cars being in the incorrect order when crossing the SC1 line, the start was not required to be delayed, no disruption to the grid was required, and there was no impact on the competition. Both cars started the race from the correct positions.

Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 5 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.
