Why it matters
Four-time F1 champion Max Verstappen recently left motoring journalist and racing driver Chris Harris "stunned" during a test drive of Ford's new GTD, showcasing his unparalleled driving talent.
The experience
Harris, known for his ability to quickly master new cars, described Verstappen's performance as "eye-opening." Despite his 25 years of experience, Harris admitted Verstappen surpassed his technical level within seconds of the first corner.
Verstappen's immediate mastery
Harris was advised about Verstappen's skill but found reality exceeded expectations. Verstappen immediately pushed the GTD to its limits, hitting braking zones within a meter of maximum capability on the very first corner.
What Harris said
"The first lap out in the GTD was eye opening. What he did out the box is quite a bit beyond what I can do. He just got in it, and into the first braking zone I think he was plus/minus one metre at the maximum of what the car would do into that corner. So it's an absolute privilege to witness that level of skill that close up."
