Document 60 - Infringement - Car 22 - Failure to Serve a Time Penalty During a Pit Stop
To: The Team Manager, Oracle Red Bull Racing From: The Stewards Date: 09 November 2025 Time: 15:35
Summary of Incident
- No / Driver: 22 - Yuki Tsunoda
- Competitor: Oracle Red Bull Racing
- Time: 14:37
- Session: Race
- Fact: Failure to properly serve a penalty during a pit stop.
- Infringement: Breach of Article 54.4 c) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
- Decision: 10 second time penalty.
Reason for Decision
The Stewards reviewed video evidence which clearly showed that Car 22 entered the pit lane to serve a 10-second time penalty. However, while the car was stationary for the purpose of serving the penalty, a mechanic prematurely began working on the car. Specifically, the mechanic loosened the left rear wheel nut with a wheel gun before the full 10 seconds had elapsed.
Article 54.4 c) of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations explicitly states that no work may be carried out on a car while a time penalty is being served. This includes any physical contact with the car, whether by hand, tool, or equipment, which is defined as "working" on the car.
As the mechanic initiated work before the penalty period concluded, the initial penalty was not correctly served. Consequently, the Stewards have imposed an additional 10-second time penalty on Car 22.
Right of Appeal
Competitors are reminded of their right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, as per Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the stipulated time limits.
