The Stewards have reviewed a report from the Race Director and made the following determination:

Incident Details

  • No / Driver: 44 - Lewis Hamilton
  • Competitor: Scuderia Ferrari HP
  • Time of Incident: 14:04
  • Session: Race
  • Fact: Car 44 collided with Car 43 in Turn 15.
  • Infringement: Breach of Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 2 d) of the FIA International Sporting Code.

Decision

  • Penalty: 5-second time penalty.
  • Penalty Points: 1 penalty point (total of 3 for the 12-month period).

Reason for Decision

  1. Evidence Reviewed: The Stewards examined video, telemetry, and in-car video evidence.
  2. Incident Description: On lap 2, Car 44 (Hamilton) closed in behind Car 43 (Col) at Turn 15. Contact occurred between the right front tyre of Car 44 and the left rear tyre of Car 43.
  3. Consequences: Car 43 was able to continue without issues, while Car 44 sustained front wing damage.
  4. Responsibility: Car 44 was deemed entirely responsible for the incident.
  5. Classification: Despite the minor contact, the incident is classified as a collision due to mechanical damage to one car.
  6. Mitigating Factors: The standard 10-second penalty was reduced to 5 seconds due to:
    • The collision occurring at a low-speed differential.
    • No immediate or obvious sporting consequence for Car 43.
    • The contact being relatively light.

Right to Appeal

Competitors are reminded of their right to appeal certain Stewards' decisions, as per Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the specified time limits.
