The Stewards have reviewed a report from the Race Director regarding an incident involving Car 23 (Alexander Albon) and Car 43 during the Race session.

Incident Details

  • Fact: Car 23 caused a collision with Car 43 in Turn 5.

Infringement

Breach of Appendix L, Chapter IV, Article 2 d) of the FIA International Sporting Code.

Decision

  • 10 second time penalty.
  • 2 penalty points (total of 4 for the 12-month period).

Reason

The Stewards thoroughly reviewed positioning/marshalling system data and video evidence. It was determined that:

  • Entering Turn 5, Car 23 (Alexander Albon) attempted to overtake Car 43 on the inside.
  • However, Car 23 did not have its front axle level with the mirror of Car 43.
  • Car 43 was in control and maintaining the normal racing line.
  • Therefore, Car 23 did not have the right to the corner and was deemed wholly responsible for the collision.

Competitors are reminded of their right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits.

Decisions of the Stewards are taken independently of the FIA and are based solely on the relevant regulations, guidelines, and evidence presented.
