The Stewards, after reviewing reports (documents 26 and 27) and hearing from the team representative, have determined the following regarding Car 31.

  • Fact: The Car failed the rear wing main plane tip deflection test.
  • Infringement: Breach of Article 3.15.17 of the FIA Technical Regulations - Rear wing main plane tip deflection test.

Decision

Car 31 is disqualified from the Qualifying classifications.

Reason for Decision

  1. Hearing: The Stewards heard from the team representative of Car 31, the Haas Head of Car Engineering, the FIA Technical Delegate, and the FIA Deputy Technical Delegate. Driver Esteban Ocon was excused.
  2. FIA Report: FIA representatives detailed the test procedure, noting that the distance between the two sections of RV-RW-PROFILES and RV-RW-TIP inboard of Y=525 varied by more than the permitted 0.5mm (0.6mm on the left side and 0.825mm on the right side).
  3. Measurement Verification: The calibration of the measuring instrument was verified and found valid.
  4. Team Concession: The team conceded that the test procedure was followed and attributed the discrepancy to a production problem with the specific part's assembly.
  5. Stewards' Conclusion: The Stewards determined that the vehicle does not comply with regulations, leading to the disqualification from Qualifying classifications.
  6. Right to Appeal: Competitors are reminded of their right to appeal, as per Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules.
