Fact: Driving erratically under Safety Car conditions.
Infringement: Breach of Articles B5.13.2a of the FIA F1 Regulations and Appendix L, Chapter IV, Articles 2 e) of the International Sporting Code.
Decision: Driver Reprimand (Driving) - 1st reprimand of the season.
Summary of the Incident
- Event Context: While following the Safety Car, Lando Norris approached Turn 1 behind a group of cars. Car 63 (George Russell) stopped ahead with a mechanical problem, causing cars to slow down.
- Visibility & Misjudgment: Due to low sun conditions, Norris misjudged his closing speed. To avoid a collision, he braked heavily and steered onto the kerbs and gravel bed, momentarily overshooting Car 81 (Oscar Piastri).
- Overtaking / Re-join Review:
- The Stewards determined that his momentary movement ahead of Piastri was due to avoiding action, and Piastri immediately repassed him while Norris was off-track (no penalty).
- Norris returned to the track safely without impeding Car 18 (Lance Stroll), and did not illegally overtake Stroll.
