Incident Details
- Fact: Unsafe act during the pit stop resulting in an unsafe situation.
- Time: 17:35
Stewards' Findings & Reason
- Automated Error: During Car 27's pit stop, the automated release system prematurely displayed a green light while a mechanic was still adjusting the front wing near the left-front wheel.
- Manual Override: The team's backup safety procedure functioned correctly; the controller immediately switched the light back to red upon seeing the mechanic.
- Driver Action: Nico Hulkenberg (HUL) began moving on the initial green light, but quickly reacted to the red light change and stopped the car before fully leaving the pit stop position.
- Technical Definition: Under Article B1.6.2, a car is only "released" when the rear axle passes the position previously occupied by the front axle. Since the car stopped in time, it did not constitute an "unsafe release".
- Conclusion: Although it was not an unsafe release, the premature green signal created a dangerous situation with a mechanic. A €30,000 fine (€20,000 suspended) is imposed to encourage process improvements.
