Document 48 - Decision - Car 4 - Alleged leaving the track and gaining an advantage

To: The Team Manager, McLaren Formula 1 Team

Date: 07 December 2025

Time: 18:35

The Stewards have reviewed a report from the Race Director regarding an incident involving Car 4, driven by Lando Norris, during the Race session at 17:37.

Fact

Car 4 left the track on the straight between Turns 5 and 6 and allegedly gained a lasting advantage.

Infringement

Breach of Article 33.3 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

Decision

No further action.

Reason

  1. Evidence Reviewed: The Stewards examined positioning/marshalling system data, video, and in-car video evidence.
  2. Incident Analysis: While Car 4 overtook Car 22 off track, this occurred because the driver of Car 22 made multiple defensive moves against Car 4. The Stewards determined that if Car 22 had not made these moves, Car 4 would have completed the overtake without leaving the track. Car 4 moved off track to avoid contact with Car 22.
  3. Driving Standards Guidelines: The guidelines state that if a car is "forced off" the track (which was effectively the case here), it is not considered to have exceeded track limits.
  4. Conclusion: Although the overtake technically happened off track, based on the above considerations, the Stewards decided to take no further action.

Competitors have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the specified time limits.
