Why it matters
As the 2025 F1 season enters its second half, McLaren is on the verge of making history. The team is demonstrating exceptional dominance, with a real possibility of becoming the first F1 team to score 1,000 points in a single season.
The big picture
From the 14 races thus far, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have secured 11 wins and 24 podiums, accumulating a total of 559 points. At this pace, they are on course to clinch the constructors' title in Azerbaijan in just three races' time.
The challenge
The MCL39's overwhelming performance has made the goal of becoming the first F1 team to reach 1,000 points in a season a strong possibility. A total of 475 points are still up for grabs across the final 10 races, which include three Sprints.
The magic number
To hit the 1,000-point mark, McLaren needs 441 more points from their current tally of 559. This means Piastri and Norris must not drop more than 34 points for the remainder of the campaign. For comparison, they've only dropped 33 points since a 1-3 finish in Monaco seven races ago. Furthermore, they have recorded consecutive one-two finishes in the last four races since the Austrian GP.
Another record to break
Even if the 1,000-point mark proves elusive, McLaren is well-positioned to surpass Red Bull's all-time record of 860 points set in the 2023 season. To achieve this, McLaren requires 302 points from the remaining races.
