What we learned from F1's Dutch Grand Prix

Zandvoort gave F1 a proper send-off, for now, with a Dutch GP that had real meaning at the front. Lando Norris won with authority, Mercedes admitted a financial reality, and the midfield fight took another twist.

McLaren's momentum and Mercedes's cost-cap admission could define the title fight. Norris is driving with new assertiveness, while Mercedes says it can't match McLaren's upgrade rate.

The details:

• Norris swept around championship leader Kimi Antonelli at Turn 1. Andrea Stella says his "assertiveness and confidence" have improved most.
• Toto Wolff says Mercedes "haven't got the money" — cost-cap allowance — to keep up with McLaren's development, and claims 50-100 points were lost to reliability.
• Alonso's ninth showed Aston Martin's progress, but Honda's engine driveability remains the weak point. A calibration tweak arrived for Zandvoort qualifying, with more for Monza.
• Piastri finished half a minute behind Norris and admitted too many weekends have been "a long way off." A mid-race hard-tyre stint hurt most.
• Lindblad, after a drive-through for overtaking Gasly under yellows, defended hard and helped Audi and Tsunoda through. Gasly scored one point and said "I can't wait to race them." Three points separate the teams.
• Ferrari had team-order angst, but qualifying was the bigger issue. Neither Ferrari could match Mercedes or McLaren, and Vasseur called Saturday's tyre-saving call wrong.
• Williams's Sainz-Albon clash damaged a floor, but the car was only quicker than Cadillac. Albon felt an early stop cost a points chance.
• Tsunoda, linked to IndyCar, made his case to F1 teams: "Call me, please."
