Max Verstappen shares insight into Toto Wolff talks: 'More than F1'

Max Verstappen has offered insight into his discussions with Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff last year, revealing that their conversations extended beyond Formula 1.

Wolff had actively pursued Verstappen throughout 2024, seeking a replacement for Lewis Hamilton who is set to join Ferrari. However, Wolff has since shifted his focus, indicating a preference to retain George Russell and the highly-rated rookie Kimi Antonelli for the 2026 season.

Verstappen and Wolff share a history of intense rivalry, particularly during the 2021 season when they vied closely for the championship. Verstappen indicated that their recent conversation helped to mend the lingering tensions from that period.

"I think it was our first real conversation since 2021," Verstappen shared with De Telegraaf. "We corrected a few things from that year."

Furthermore, Verstappen suggested that their talks encompassed future collaborations outside of the F1 arena.

"We also talked a little bit about the future perspective," Verstappen stated. "But for me, it’s not just about F1. I do a lot of things with Red Bull.

"Everyone always thinks that decisions about my future are purely based on what’s going on here in this world, but I’m working on a lot more.

"There’s more than ‘project F1’. That’s not something that every team can just offer."
