Martin Brundle Honoured with OBE

Sky Sports commentator and former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle has been awarded an OBE for his significant contributions to motor racing and sports broadcasting.

Royal Recognition

The 65-year-old received the honour, formally known as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, from Prince William at Windsor Castle. Following the ceremony, Brundle expressed his gratitude on social media:

"I received this very special award in a spectacularly beautiful setting from HRH Prince of Wales today on behalf of my family and friends, everyone who created and operated any racing car I drove, and everybody who has been part of creating and transmitting any Formula One broadcast I’ve been fortunate to be part of. Sincere thanks to all of you who have shared the journey with me so far."

Reflections on a Dual Career

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brundle highlighted the collaborative nature of his success in both driving and broadcasting. "It made me feel very lucky and very privileged because always something like this, you receive on behalf of an awful lot of other people because either they were designing and creating and fixing my racing cars, or working with us in the broadcasting industry. You can't do anything on your own at the level of Formula 1," he stated.

He reflected on his "two careers in F1 as a driver and a broadcaster" for which the award was presented, admitting he was "ecstatic" upon receiving the official notification before Christmas.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali also congratulated Brundle, praising him as a "brilliant voice" for the sport. Domenicali's statement read: "Huge congratulations to Martin Brundle on receiving his OBE for services to motor racing and to sports broadcasting. He has been a tireless supporter of motorsport and constant presence and brilliant voice to all our fans over many years."
