Liam Lawson is maintaining a cautious stance despite his impressive recent form, acknowledging how quickly fortunes can shift in Formula 1.
Why it matters:
Lawson has scored points in three of the last four Grands Prix, including a career-best sixth place at the Austrian Grand Prix. This positive spell follows a challenging start to his season, highlighting his resilience and adaptation.
The big picture:
Lawson began the year with Red Bull but was later moved back to the sister Racing Bulls team after two difficult opening rounds. Since his return to the Faenza-based squad, his performance has significantly improved, yet he remains grounded about the sport's unpredictable nature.
What he's saying:
"It's very easy to get ahead of yourself in the sport," Lawson exclusively told RacingNews365. "Things change very, very quickly. So I think the approach for me stays the same as it has been for most of the season." He added, "It's very, very close and competitive. For me, it's just extracting everything out of me, but I feel comfortable in the car."
His journey:
A long-standing member of the Red Bull family, Lawson has been with their program for five or six years, including extensive simulator work and test days with both Red Bull and Racing Bulls (then AlphaTauri/VCARB). This deep integration helped him transition smoothly into the race seat despite the early challenges.
Lessons learned:
Regarding his brief two-round stint with Red Bull, Lawson noted he gained insights into their operational approach. "Just working with the team and understanding their approach to race weekends, their approach to setting up the car and things like that, for sure, there are points that I take from that and there are points that I learn." He stressed that his learning was primarily about team processes rather than extensive car development.
