Lawson confident of more after first Madring running

Liam Lawson ended both Friday practice sessions at the Spanish Grand Prix in 10th place, but the Red Bull driver is confident there is more to come as he gets to grips with the brand-new Madring circuit in Madrid.

The Madring is new to the entire field, so track time is at a premium. Lawson's steady build-up could put him in a stronger position for qualifying, while Red Bull continues to search for outright pace.

• Lawson completed 26 laps in FP1 and 21 in FP2, improving from a 1m35.539s to a 1m34.938s.
• He cut his deficit to the fastest time from 1.462s in FP1 to 1.276s behind Kimi Antonelli in FP2.
• "For all of us, Madring is very different and takes a lot more time to get used to compared to tracks that we've been to many times," Lawson said.
• Max Verstappen placed fifth in FP1 and sixth in FP2, ending 0.401s behind Antonelli.
• Red Bull's technical director Pierre Wache said the circuit was bumpier and harder on tyres than simulation data suggested, but the team's long-run pace was competitive.
• Racing Bulls also impressed, with Arvid Lindblad fourth in FP2 before crashing at Turn 13.

Lawson's focus is on preparing for qualifying. "We'll try and tune it up overnight and have a stronger drive tomorrow," he said. Verstappen echoed that, saying there are "always little things to tweak" ahead of Saturday.
