Imola is undertaking a massive modernization project to ensure the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari remains a viable contender for future Formula 1 hosting duties. Despite losing its slot on the 2026 calendar due to the addition of a second Spanish race in Madrid, the historic Italian track is not resting on its laurels. Instead, it is investing in critical infrastructure upgrades to stay ready for a potential return as a reserve or rotation venue.

The pressure on European races is intensifying as F1 expands globally and hosting fees skyrocket. Imola's strategy highlights the reality for traditional circuits: evolve or risk being left behind. By upgrading facilities now, the track positions itself as a "plug-and-play" option for F1, capable of stepping in at short notice or participating in a rotation system similar to Spa-Francorchamps, rather than fading into irrelevance.

The details:

• Paddock Modernization: The renovation focuses heavily on the paddock area. The waterproof zone is being enlarged to provide more space for teams and streamline operations, while the medical center square is being repaved with eco-friendly asphalt to meet FIA World Endurance Championship requirements.
• Infrastructure Improvements: To combat natural risks, the wall separating the paddock from the river is being reinforced against flooding. Additionally, noise barriers are being extended to shield nearby residents, and the pit terrace is being covered in three distinct phases.
• New Hospitality: A significant addition is the "Casa degli Eventi" at the Tosa hairpin. This new multi-purpose facility replaces an old house and features a large semi-circular glass window offering excellent views of the track.
• Access & Traffic: Road networks around Tosa are being modified to improve safety and access. The bridge is widening from one to two lanes with a cycle path, and new roundabouts will connect key access points like Via Tiro a Segno and Via Kennedy.
