Gasly Surprised by Red Bull's Struggles: 'It Has Been Quite Surprising'
Pierre Gasly has admitted he is surprised by Red Bull's challenging start to the new season under the new technical regulations, with the team yet to score a podium after four rounds.
Why it matters:
Red Bull entered 2026 tipped as a front-runner, running its own Ford power unit for the first time. Instead, it has been a midfield contender, a dramatic fall from its dominant recent years.
The details:
- Gasly told media including RacingNews365: "After Bahrain, I was sure they were part of the top four battles. Looking at Australia, they looked pretty strong. But for whatever reason, after that it was a lot more difficult. It's been quite surprising."
- Red Bull's upgrades in Miami showed improvement, with Max Verstappen finishing a season-best fifth. However, teammate Isack Hadjar crashed out early, leaving him with just one top-10 result from four races.
- Hadjar acknowledged the struggles: "We both, the team and I, made mistakes. It's been a bit of a disaster from both sides. But we're happy there's more performance in the car — it's not such a pain to make Q3 now."
What's next:
The team heads to Canada next weekend looking to build on the Miami progress. Hadjar remains confident: "Let's just look at the positives and come back in Canada and hopefully do a strong one."
