Fernando Alonso Frustrated After Italian GP Suspension Failure: "We'll Wait for the Next One"
Why it matters
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire from the 2025 Italian Grand Prix due to a front-right suspension failure, costing him valuable points. This incident marks his fifth DNF of the season, further highlighting a pattern of bad luck and mechanical issues that have plagued his campaign.
The details
Alonso was running strongly in seventh position on lap 25 when disaster struck. His AMR25 suffered a front-right suspension failure after crossing the exit kerb of the Ascari chicane, forcing him to limp back to the pits and retire the car.
Speaking after the race, the Spaniard confirmed the mechanical issue, stating to DAZN: "It seems that the suspension gave way, and well, we had to retire the car." He expressed deep frustration over the lost points, calculating: "We were seventh... so yes, six points here. Eight in Monaco when we were sixth and broke the engine there, today when we were seventh we broke the suspension, so it's dozens of points that bad luck is taking away from us."
Alonso questioned the cause of the failure, noting, "It's a kerb that we were hitting all weekend and that we continued to hit... everyone continues to hit that kerb." Despite the setback, he maintained that the team had executed the weekend "one hundred per cent" with a strong qualifying and a good initial race stint.
The bigger picture
This consistent string of mechanical failures and unfortunate incidents has significantly impacted Alonso's season, preventing him from converting strong qualifying performances into points. While acknowledging that some points were lost due to team mistakes, a substantial portion is attributed to bad luck.
What's next
Alonso stated that the team's aspirations for the year are focused on fighting for the constructors' championship and helping the team finish as high as possible. He remains committed to performing perfectly in upcoming races: "We try to do our job perfectly every weekend, and as we did this weekend... and from there we'll wait for the next one."
