π Reasoning
- Incident Summary:
- During the preparation for the re-start at the end of a Safety Car period, Car 23 collided with the rear of Car 5 (Gabriel Bortoleto), and Car 77 subsequently collided with the rear of Car 23.
- Both collisions resulted from a "concertina" effect caused by cars ahead traveling at inconsistent speeds.
- Stewards' Assessment:
- Car 77 could have avoided the collision by leaving more space and recognizing the risk of the concertina effect ahead, especially given the damp conditions.
- If Car 77 had not retired from the Sprint due to the collision, a 5-second time penalty would have been applied (reduced from the usual 10-second penalty due to the inconsistent speeds of the cars ahead).
- Since a 5-second penalty would not convert into a grid penalty and the car already retired, the Stewards determined no penalty should be applied.
