Document 24 - Technical Delegate's Report (P1 and P2 Scrutineering)

This report, issued by Jo Bauer, the FIA Formula One Technical Delegate, to the Stewards on March 6, 2026, at 20:19, details the technical checks conducted before, during, and after the first and second free practice sessions of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix.

Before the First Free Practice Session:

  • Exhaust System Components: All cars' exhaust systems were checked against team declarations.

During the First Free Practice Session (P1):

  • Tyre Pressures: Starting tyre pressures for all cars were checked.
  • Engine Limits: Engine high rev limit bands were checked.
  • Fuel System: Fuel flow meter calibration checksum and fuel temperature were checked.
  • Air/Temperature: Plenum temperature and engine intake air pressure were checked.
  • Turbocharger: Maximum turbocharger speed was checked.

After the First Free Practice Session:

  • Fuel System: Fuel pressure was checked.
  • Cooling System: Logged pressure within the water cooling system was checked.
  • Sensors/Software: DC sensor code, calibration checksums, and temperatures were checked.
  • Energy Recovery System (ERS): ES state of charge on-track limits and ERS recharge limits were checked.
  • Motor Generator Unit - Kinetic (MGU-K): Maximum MGU-K power and speed limits were checked.
  • Software: Custom software versions were checked.
  • Samples: A fuel sample and an engine oil sample were taken from car number 43.

During the Second Free Practice Session (P2):

  • Tyre Pressures: Starting tyre pressures for all cars were checked.
  • Engine Limits: Engine high rev limit bands were checked.
  • Fuel System: Fuel flow meter calibration checksum and fuel temperature were checked.
  • Air/Temperature: Plenum temperature was checked.
  • Engine Intake Air Pressure: Checked on specific cars (81, 01, 63, 12, 06, 16, 44, 23, 55, 41, 30, 18, 14, 31, 87, 27, 05, 10, 43, 11, 77).
  • Turbocharger: Maximum turbocharger speed was checked on all cars.

After the Second Free Practice Session:

  • Weight: Car number 63 was weighed.
  • Fuel System: Fuel pressure was checked.
  • Cooling System: Logged pressure within the water cooling system was checked.
  • Sensors/Software: DC sensor code, calibration checksums, and temperatures were checked.
  • Energy Recovery System (ERS): ES state of charge on-track limits were checked.
  • ERS Recharge Limits: Checked on specific cars (81, 01, 63, 12, 03, 06, 16, 44, 23, 55, 41, 30, 18, 14, 31, 87, 05, 10, 43, 11, 77).
  • Motor Generator Unit - Kinetic (MGU-K): Maximum MGU-K power and speed limits were checked.
  • Chassis: Chassis FIA checksum was checked.
  • Brakes: Rear brakes pressure control was checked.
  • Software: Custom and SECU software versions were checked.
  • Tyres: Tyres used by all drivers during the sessions were checked.
  • Samples: A fuel sample and an engine oil sample were taken from car number 77.

Sample Analysis Results:

  • Fuel Analysis: Fuels were consistent with approved samples, and density changes were within permitted limits.
  • Engine Oil Analysis: Oils were consistent with approved reference samples after FTIR spectroscopy and viscometry analysis.

Conclusion: All checked items were found to be in conformity with the 2026 FIA Formula One Technical Regulations.
