Sky F1 issues apology after Lando Norris' British GP F-bomb

Lando Norris, following his emotional maiden home victory at the British Grand Prix, used expletive language when discussing his race mindset. This led to Sky F1 pundit Jenson Button issuing an on-air apology for the broadcaster.

The Race

The British Grand Prix, significantly impacted by rain, saw Norris claim his first victory on home soil. While his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri had largely dominated, a 10-second time penalty for an incident before a Safety Car restart cost him his lead. Piastri served the penalty, allowing Norris to inherit the lead and secure the win.

Norris's Reaction

Exhilarated and emotional post-race, Norris used an F-bomb when describing his thoughts during the closing laps. Button, interviewing Norris, Piastri, and Nico Hulkenberg, asked about his mindset. Norris stated:

"I mean, your mind just goes pretty blank. So everything you might think before the race, you forget, yeah. I mean, the main thing is always just don't f*ck it up. Yeah, that's rule number one. But you know, the last few laps, I was just looking into the crowd, I was just trying to take it all in, enjoy the moment, because it might never happen again. Hope it does. But these are memories that I'll bring with me forever. So, incredible achievement."

Button promptly interrupted, saying, "I'll apologise for your..." Norris, realizing the implication, quickly followed with, "sorry."

FIA Rule Changes

Recently, the FIA updated its regulations concerning driver conduct, including the use of profanity. The maximum fine for misconduct was reduced from €10,000 to €5,000, with stewards given discretion for first-time offenders. The FIA also clarified the distinction between 'controlled' and 'uncontrolled environments' to guide stewards' decisions, with 'controlled environments' including press conferences and 'uncontrolled environments' referring to spontaneous comments made on track or during rallies.
