Red Bull debuts new F1 front wing to comply with FIA clampdown

Summary
Red Bull has introduced a new front wing at the Spanish GP to comply with stricter FIA flexi-wing tests, calling them "essentially a new regulation." Several other teams have also made modifications to their front wings to meet the new requirements, while some, like Mercedes and McLaren, have opted for alternative solutions or updated existing designs.

Red Bull Debuts New F1 Front Wing to Comply with FIA Clampdown

Red Bull has introduced a new front wing at the Spanish Grand Prix to meet the stricter flexi-wing tests being enforced by the FIA.

Team boss Christian Horner described the new tests as "essentially a new regulation."

Red Bull's explanation of the change is as follows:

"in order to comply with the revisions to the 2025 F1 technical regulations applicable from the Spanish GP, the front wing geometry has been revised to gain stiffness at minimal weight cost and then iterated to pursue the load characteristics sought”.

The team specified that the first and second elements of the front wing, along with flap elements, tips, and outboard tip adjusters, have been modified compared to the previous version.

McLaren is noted as the only team not to officially declare changes, though they have also brought a modified front wing, which they claim debuted earlier at Imola. McLaren's modification involves adding an extra support stay between the top two elements to increase strength.

Mercedes did not declare geometric changes either. Ferrari has revised its endplate and outboard tip rolls as part of a package aimed at enhancing aerodynamic load distribution and complying with the new rules.

Alpine also hasn't declared a front wing change, having already debuted their updated wing during FP1 at Imola.

Other teams like Aston Martin, Haas, Racing Bulls, and Williams have declared front wing changes specifically to adapt to the stricter tests.

  • Aston Martin: Revised tip detail between elements and endplate to enhance flowfield and increase load.
  • Racing Bulls: New mainplane elements with a lower central section.
  • Williams: More backed-off rearward flap profile and revised endplate camber geometry to improve brake duct and floor performance.

Teams who have declared geometric wing changes: Aston Martin, Haas, Ferrari, Racing Bulls, Red Bull, Sauber and Williams

Teams who haven't declared geometric wing changes: Alpine, Mercedes, McLaren

Other Barcelona Changes

Ferrari

Ferrari has also updated its high downforce rear wing with a reprofiled outboard tip and roll for Barcelona.

Mercedes

Mercedes has not used the new suspension from Imola this weekend. They have, however, made floor edge changes, including an increased chord floor edge wing with additional vanes to add downforce, and reprofiled floor fences. They also have a revised high downforce rear wing.

Alpine

Alpine has modified its floor body and fences to generate more aerodynamic load.

Racing Bulls

Besides the front wing, Racing Bulls has a new nose design with a raised lower surface and lowered tip to work with the new front wing sections.

Williams

Williams has a revised brake cooling setup for Barcelona and optional cooling louvres for maximum power unit cooling.

Sauber

Sauber's updates include changes to the floor fence, outboard floor edge, and diffuser, plus an updated engine cover.
