Piastri completes Imola Friday practice sweep as Ferrari find brake trouble
Oscar Piastri completed a perfect Friday for McLaren at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, pipping Lando Norris in second practice.
Piastri beat Norris by just 0.025s in a tightly contested session. Alpine's Pierre Gasly was a surprise third.
Further down the order, Mercedes' George Russell was four tenths off the pace in fourth, ahead of Red Bull's Max Verstappen in fifth and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in sixth.
Leclerc and his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton, who finished 11th, both reported brake issues. Ferrari even worked on Hamilton's brakes during the session. Ferrari brought upgrades to their home event, but Hamilton's pace deficit suggests they didn't make significant progress.
In other incidents, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar spun and beached his car in the first chicane. Hadjar finished seventh, ahead of Yuki Tsunoda, Alex Albon, and Carlos Sainz.
Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli struggled and finished 18th in his first home race.
