Cadillac F1 Team Advancing Driver Discussions for 2026 Debut
The new Cadillac F1 team is actively engaged in discussions with multiple drivers for its 2026 season debut, according to Team Principal Graeme Lowdon. The American outfit, backed by General Motors and TWG Global, is preparing to enter Formula 1 as the 11th team on the grid.
Driver Contenders
Since their entry was confirmed in March, Cadillac has received interest from a significant number of drivers. Multiple race winners Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas, both without a full-time F1 seat after last season, are reportedly among the leading candidates. Other names linked to a potential drive include former Sauber driver Zhou Guanyu and Aston Martin reserve Felipe Drugovich.
Lowdon's Insights
In an interview with Sky Sports News, Lowdon stated:
- "We talk to these people all of the time and we try and spend time in the paddock as well."
- The team's primary focus has been on developing the car, but driver discussions are progressing.
- An announcement is not expected at the British Grand Prix, but Lowdon advised to "watch this space."
Regarding Valtteri Bottas' recent social media post featuring a Cadillac road car with the caption "Do we like this seat?", Lowdon commented, "I saw that post - well, it shows he's bought a Cadillac!" He clarified that while the team is fortunate to have a strong pool of talent to choose from, the driver selection will be based on a mix of skills and finding the right fit.
Embracing the Challenge
Lowdon acknowledged the immense difficulty of entering Formula 1, stating, "No new team coming into Formula 1 has any right, in reality, to be anywhere other than the back of the grid." However, he emphasized the team's ambition and the belief that they have the necessary components to succeed. The team is on track with its preparations, with a countdown clock in the office highlighting the time remaining until the first practice session in Melbourne.
