More trouble for Franco Colapinto as FIA investigation launched over Imola GP incident

Alpine driver Franco Colapinto is facing a potential grid penalty at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix after a breach during qualifying at Imola. Colapinto, who is making his first appearance of the F1 2025 season, suffered a significant crash in Q1.

He is currently set to start 15th but is under investigation by the FIA for an incident that occurred just minutes before his crash.

Colapinto is alleged to have entered the pit lane's fast lane before the FIA communicated a restart time following an earlier red flag. This action is a potential breach of the International Sporting Code and a specific Race Director's note.

Colapinto and an Alpine representative were summoned to the stewards to discuss the matter. A similar offense resulted in one-place grid penalties for Mercedes drivers George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The investigation adds to the challenges for Colapinto this weekend.
