Helmut Marko Optimistic About Red Bull Wins, Cautions Against Monza Podium

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko believes the team can still clinch multiple victories this season, despite McLaren's recent dominance. However, he specifically warned that the upcoming Italian Grand Prix at Monza is unlikely to be one of those opportunities.

After a challenging period, Red Bull showed improved form at Zandvoort, with Max Verstappen securing a crucial second place after Lando Norris's late retirement. Yuki Tsunoda also brought home valuable points, marking his first points finish since May. While the team is making progress, McLaren's overwhelming speed poses a significant challenge, reshaping the competitive landscape and putting pressure on Red Bull to adapt.

Marko candidly acknowledged McLaren's superior pace, stating, "It's as if McLaren is from another planet. When they step on the gas, they have a three-quarter-second lead on us [per lap]." This stark assessment highlights McLaren's current advantage. Despite this, he noted a positive shift: "We have, at least, detached ourselves from Ferrari and Mercedes, who are a second behind." This suggests Red Bull is solidifying its position as the clear second-best team, now focusing on closing the gap to the front.

While Monza's high-speed layout looks tough, Marko sees potential for Red Bull to win on other tracks better suited to their car. When asked about winning races on their own merit this year, he replied, "On circuits like Baku, Austin, Jeddah, or Mexico, it could definitely work – the sooner, the better." However, he was clear about Monza's prospects: "That's too early... Behind the McLarens, even a podium position will be difficult for us." He also noted Oscar Piastri's relaxed outlook, suggesting the championship battle is likely concluded for him. Red Bull's strategy will be to capitalize on tracks that play to their strengths, aiming to challenge for wins in the latter part of the season.
