Liam Lawson tipped to rescue F1 career after being thrown into 'deep ocean'

Liam Lawson has been tipped by Daniil Kvyat to recover from his Red Bull stint, after being thrown into the "deep ocean" of F1.

Lawson was promoted to Red Bull at the start of the 2025 season but was sent back to Racing Bulls following poor performances in Australia and China, with Yuki Tsunoda taking his spot.

The Kiwi has shown flashes of pace since partnering Isack Hadjar but remains point-less heading into the Monaco Grand Prix. He insists he is now fully up to speed with the Racing Bulls machine.

Kvyat, who was himself axed early by Red Bull in 2016 (after securing a podium), backed Lawson to recover from his tough Red Bull stint.

"It is not quite the same situation, with different levels of performance, but what happens in Formula 1 is that sometimes you are thrown in the deep ocean," Kvyat told RacingNews365. "They are not great circumstances for you as a driver... but it is not over yet."

He added, "Especially for Liam, the car looks competitive, and he just needs to reset and keep going."

Kvyat also commented on the current state of F1: "When I was racing for AlphaTauri in 2019, 2020, it was in the midfield, and there were just two teams that were massively ahead... now it is not so much the case anymore. You can really see a good car straight away."
