Lewis Hamilton calls out career first experience with frustrating Ferrari 'lottery'
Lewis Hamilton has described the unpredictable nature of his Ferrari and its brakes as a "lottery," a frustrating "career first" experience.
This has been a recurring theme for the seven-time champion this season, who is now using Brembo brakes instead of the Carbon Industrie variety he was accustomed to at Mercedes.
At the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix weekend:
- FP1: Hamilton was fifth fastest and "really, really happy with the car," feeling a step forward.
- FP2: He dropped to P11 after making "two tiniest things" changes that unexpectedly caused "brake issues" making a "massive difference."
Hamilton stated, "That's been quite a big issue all year, actually. I've never experienced that before, that's a new thing for me this year."
He clarified it's a performance issue, not him adapting to a new brake manufacturer.
Asked if the situation was fixable overnight for FP3 and qualifying, Hamilton said the team would "roll the dice" on the issue again, calling it a "lottery."
"You put one on and it works, you put another on and it doesn't, then we'll see," he added.
