Jos Verstappen sends Red Bull critical F1 title fight warning
Max Verstappen has warned Red Bull that they must improve their performance this weekend at Imola or risk falling too far behind in the championship.
Mclaren has started the season strongly, winning five of the first six races. Max Verstappen's victory in Japan was the only race Mclaren did not win, but strong podium finishes have kept him close to the championship lead.
However, Mclaren showed dominant pace in Miami, with Oscar Piastri winning by a significant margin. Red Bull has brought upgrades to Imola this weekend, which Jos Verstappen believes are crucial for the title fight.
He told RaceXpress:
"They'll come up with updates anyway, because of course that's what they called out adamantly at the beginning of the season.
"In Imola, it's going to happen, so I'm curious. It is absolutely important that it goes in the right direction. Otherwise, the gap will just get too big.
"The next three races, the points difference really has to start narrowing, otherwise it won't work at all this year."
While Verstappen has been competitive in qualifying, his pace has dropped off during races, particularly when Mclaren has pushed.
Jos added that he would not be attending the Imola race but would hear from Max about the car's performance and the championship standings.
