Hadjar the target of Lewis Hamilton radio message in ‘brake test’ Imola GP incident

Lewis Hamilton was unimpressed with Isack Hadjar during practice for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, stating the Racing Bulls driver "just brake tested me."

The incident: During first practice at Imola, a crucial track for Italian teams Ferrari and Racing Bulls, Hadjar braked sharply in front of Hamilton. Hamilton was on a slow lap, conversing with his race engineer Riccardo Adami via radio, when Hadjar pulled alongside and then braked suddenly.

Hamilton, who was off the racing line, had a close encounter with the VCARB02.

"Oh shit!" Hamilton exclaimed over the radio. "Jeez, this guy in front just brake tested me."

Context: While Hadjar's actions could be viewed as questionable, it's understood he may have been yielding to a faster Red Bull driver behind him. He moved to the racing line but was forced to brake for the upcoming chicane, which in turn forced Hamilton to brake as well.

Hamilton finished the session fifth fastest, less than a tenth behind pacesetter Oscar Piastri.

Hamilton on Ferrari's struggles: Speaking to the media, Hamilton expressed confidence in his move to Ferrari, despite the team's early-season difficulties.

"Ultimately, it comes down to the self-belief you have, and it’s just a mentality," Hamilton stated. "I truly believe that each day I can do better, I can try harder and if I fail, I try again."

He added, "I have won seven titles; I have won more than any other driver in history. I have to remind myself that I also have done great things. And while things aren’t always going to be great, and we’re having this period of time, things will get better if you believe and if you continue to push and work."

"There’s no lack of enthusiasm or talent in this team. I genuinely truly believe we’re going to get there at some stage, we just have to be patient."
