Formula 2 unveils new-generation car for 2027

Formula 2 has unveiled its new-generation car for 2027 at Monza. The car retains the current Dallara chassis to limit costs, but introduces redesigned front and rear wings aimed at closer racing and a visual alignment with F1’s 2026 design philosophy.

Why it matters:

F2 is the final step before F1, and the new car balances cost control with its role as a proving ground. The changes target closer racing, safety and sustainability, while keeping the existing engine and tyres to manage budgets.

The Details:

• Retains the Dallara chassis, 3.4-litre turbocharged V6 Mecachrome engine (620hp) and 18-inch Pirelli tyres.
• Redesigned front and rear wings improve following and visually tie the car to F1’s 2026 machinery.
• New on-board starter, integrated by Hewland into the six-speed gearbox, lets drivers restart after spins or stalls.
• Aramco sustainable fuel continues; safety includes the titanium Halo and Zylon anti-intrusion panels.

F2 CEO Bruno Michel said the redesign keeps costs managed while bringing the design closer to an F1 car.

What's next:

The car made its track debut at Barcelona in June, with further aero work since. Teams receive upgrade kits in December and January ahead of the 2027 season.
