Antonelli tops Spanish GP FP2 as Mercedes leads Ferrari at Madrid

Kimi Antonelli laid down an early marker at Formula 1's Spanish Grand Prix, topping Friday's second practice at the new Madrid circuit with a 1m33.662s lap. The Mercedes driver edged Ferrari's Charles Leclerc by 0.113s, while Lewis Hamilton made it a tight three-way fight at the top.

The Madring is a punishing hybrid of street sections and purpose-built corners, with almost no runoff. With the field split by fractions over one lap, track position in qualifying will be critical. Antonelli, already leading the championship, is showing Mercedes has the pace to back up its title ambitions.
