Alpine Boss Resigns Days After Brother Charged
Oliver Oakes, the former Team Principal of Alpine F1, resigned from his position just days after his brother, William Oakes, was arrested and charged with "transferring criminal property".
William Oakes, 31, was apprehended in Silverstone Park on May 1st, found with a significant amount of cash. He subsequently appeared at Northampton Magistrates' Court on May 3rd and was taken into custody.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the specifics of William Oakes' charge and court proceedings.
William Oakes serves as a director for Hitech Grand Prix, the British junior racing team established by his brother Oliver in 2015.
It is important to note that Oliver Oakes has no stated connection to his brother's arrest and faces no accusations of any misconduct. Oliver Oakes, a former racing driver who clinched the 2005 karting world championship, continues to be a director at Hitech GP.
Oliver Oakes had a successful tenure leading Hitech GP before taking over as Alpine's Team Principal in August 2024, becoming the youngest team boss on the F1 grid at 37 years old.
During his time at Alpine, the team secured a notable double podium finish with drivers Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly at the 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix. His departure was abrupt and occurred shortly after the team decided to replace rookie driver Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto after just six races.
Sky Sports News has reached out to Hitech GP for a statement, while Alpine F1 has stated they will not be commenting on the matter.
