Marco Andretti at risk of missing Indy 500 after Day 1 qualifying

Marco Andretti, grandson of legend Mario Andretti, faces the risk of missing the 2025 Indianapolis 500 after the first day of qualifying at the Brickyard.

Andretti is among four drivers, alongside Rinus Veekay, Marcus Armstrong, and Jacob Abel, who must compete in 'Last Chance qualifying' on Sunday. They failed to secure a spot within the top 30, which guarantees a place in the race. With only 33 cars allowed to start, one of these four drivers will not make the final field.

In contrast, drivers such as Alex Palou, Scott McLaughlin, Josef Newgarden, Pato O'Ward, Scott Dixon, Will Power, and Marcus Ericsson have safely advanced to the Fast 12 session scheduled for Sunday.

The Fast 12 will compete again, with the field then narrowed down to the top six drivers who will battle for pole position in a subsequent session.

Colton Herta, despite crashing on his first lap early in the session, has secured a spot in the race, currently in 29th. This was made possible by Andretti rebuilding his spare car to get him back on track.

NASCAR star Kyle Larson, participating in his 'Double Duty' bid again this year, qualified in 21st position.
