Verstappen Wins Imola GP in Close-Fought Race
Max Verstappen has won the F1 Imola Grand Prix, crossing the line 6.1 seconds ahead of Lando Norris. Oscar Piastri completed the podium in third, a further 6.8 seconds back.
Lewis Hamilton finished in fourth place, with Alex Albon taking fifth after a late swap with his teammate. Charles Leclerc finished sixth, ahead of George Russell, Carlos Sainz, Isack Hadjar, and Yuki Tsunoda, who rounded out the top ten.
The race was heavily influenced by strategic pit stops and tyre management. A Safety Car period, brought out by Antonelli's retirement, allowed several drivers to pit for fresh tyres, significantly impacting the race order.
The field saw intense battles, with key overtakes and close racing throughout. Leclerc voiced frustration over team radio concerning instructions for a potential position swap with Albon. Fernando Alonso also expressed dissatisfaction during the race.
Verstappen's victory was hard-fought, maintaining his lead against strategic challenges. Norris's strong second-place finish highlights McLaren's ongoing development and competitiveness.
